A Trading Name Is Not a New Legal Entity

A brand, a DBA, or a fresh logo does not replace the company Stripe underwrote. The legal entity is the one the notice names.

On this page

A trading name is a label. The legal entity is who can be pursued when a payment is reversed. Stripe asks for the entity and the people who own it. Painting a new name on the checkout, after a restriction, does not create a new underwriting. It creates a mismatch.

You can trade as a name. You cannot become a different company by printing one.
Customers see a brand. The account is a legal person. Reviews compare the two.

What is actually moving

The customer still has to recognise the charge. If the trading name, the legal name, and the descriptor are three strangers, disputes follow. If you explain the relationship in one true sentence, the file gets easier. If the sentence would be a lie, do not put it on the site.

  • Legal name: who is underwritten.
  • Trading name: what the shop says.
  • Descriptor: what the statement shows.
  • All three must be explainable.

What people confuse it with

Forming a new company to “hold the brand” while the old company carries the restriction is the move this site keeps refusing. The people travel with the history.

Not a reinstatement method

Nothing in this note switches a Stripe control off, quotes a secret threshold, or suggests another login as a remedy.

What to do with it

Make the label and the entity tell the same story.

  1. Write the legal name, the trading name, and the descriptor in one line each.
  2. If they differ, explain the difference truthfully.
  3. Do not answer a notice by changing only the logo.
  4. In any assessment, give both names. Hiding the legal entity behind the brand is a reason to stop.

What this briefing is not

It is not legal, tax or card-scheme advice, and it is not Stripe’s policy. Your notice and Stripe’s terms control the account. RevRouters does not process payments, does not lift a freeze, and does not offer another business’s account as a remedy.

Questions on this note

Can I register a trading name and open a fresh Stripe account?

A new name is not a new history. If the people and the business are the same, the restriction is part of the file. Leaving it out is misrepresentation.

Which name should the customer see?

The one they will remember paying. That can be a trading name, if the legal entity behind it is true and disclosed where Stripe asks.
