An early fraud warning is a signal from the card network or issuer that the cardholder is likely to dispute. It is not a restriction of the account. It is a clock you do not get to invent a number for on this site: the dashboard shows the warning, and the useful move is to decide whether you can evidence the charge.
Refund the ones you cannot defend. Do not wait for the dispute to teach you.
What is actually moving
If the descriptor is obscure, the customer may simply not recognise you. Fixing the descriptor does not save the charge already made. Refunding it can be cheaper than a dispute. If you can show delivery to that customer, keep the evidence ready and do not refund out of panic.
- A warning is not a dispute yet.
- It is also not a freeze.
- Unrecognised often means the descriptor.
- A pattern is a business fact, not bad luck.
What people confuse it with
Ignoring a stack of warnings because “they always become nothing” is how a review starts. The warnings are the issuer telling you the book looks wrong.
Not a reinstatement method
What to do with it
Decide charge by charge, then look at the pattern.
- Open each warning and the charge it names.
- Refund where you cannot show the customer received the thing.
- Keep evidence where you can.
- If the warnings share one product or one affiliate, stop that source. Do not open a second account to outrun them.
What this briefing is not
Questions on this note
Does an early fraud warning take the money immediately?
Not by itself. It warns you a dispute may follow. A refund or a later lost dispute is what moves the balance.
Should I refund every warning?
Refund the ones you cannot evidence. Fighting all of them with empty files makes the rate worse, not better.
